THERAPY, PARENT CONSULTATION, SUPERVISION, EDUCATIONAL TRAINING

Elizabeth Emen, LMHC (NY), LCPC (MD), LPC (VA)

Welcome! I’m a licensed professional counselor and I received my masters training and degree from Johns Hopkins University. I have been working with children, teens, adults, and families as a therapist for over thirteen years in a variety of settings-non-profits, community mental health, and private practice.

As a therapist, I value humanizing others through bringing attention to the identities and lived experiences of my client’s - including acknowledging my own identity experiences and how they may limit or support in our work together. I strive to empower my clients by centering their perspectives, cultures and families- I aim to distance from problematic power dynamics historically embedded in therapy and mental health systems. I commit to transparency and autonomy for my client’s, as well as advocacy and ongoing efforts to transform harmful systems that continue to oppress.

I offer therapeutic support and skill to humanize and connect-despite the exhausting and stress inducing impact of truly paying attention to the world around us, including global and communal injuries, experiences of disconnection and exclusion, isolation, and the protectedness that others people. I support through life’s challenges, transitions, injustices, and heartaches. I partner with you to optimize your emotional wellness and the ability to live your life fully.

I also bring intentional support to the process of identity exploration and expression, including attending to experiences related to culture/race, gender and sexuality, spirituality, neurodivergence, as well as family and community membership and belonging experiences.

I am here to follow your lead, bring acceptance and validation, continually understand, and empower you at every turn.

Together we will strengthen your ability to cope with and resolve grief related to loss, and better understand the way past or ongoing stressful or traumatic experiences may continue to affect you- working toward continued healing. Together we will throw away the harmful expectations and messages about self and family that no longer serve you, and help you live the way that works best for you with those you desire to have beside you. I have valued working with people of diverse identities and backgrounds, and am looking forward to meeting you and working together

Let’s connect.
